Face Masks

Skin care is becoming more and more popular as well as self care. One specific kind of skin care/self care is using face masks. There are different types of face masks and depending on the one you buy they may treat different skin needs.

The different types are generally speaking, sheet masks and masks you apply with your fingers or a brush. The sheet mask category doesn’t get any more specific, but the latter kind does. Through the kind you apply, there are kinds you peel off and ones you rinse off. Overall, they all work nearly the same.

I think that sheet masks work better if you’re aiming for hydration, otherwise I think it doesn’t stay on easily enough. I was doing a sheet mask last week and I literally had to press it on to my face the whole time, to get it to stay. In fairness, I wasn’t just laying flat on my bed an relaxing, I was sitting up working on another post, which turned into me watching Netflix because of the whole “one hand” thing. In my opinion they’re basically more trouble than they’re worth.

Masks that you apply, boy does that need a better name. I’m actually wearing one right now as I type this. I absolutely adore masks like this, except the black kind that you peel off, that was SO painful, and I think most of what it did was wax my face. My favorite brand of masks like this, is Lush. Lush is a 100% vegetarian company and some products are vegan too. All products are also freshly handmade. Not only does Lush not test on animals, they actively fight against it, which only adds to their amazing-ness. (I’m going to link my opinion on animal testing at the bottom.)

Now that the Lush commercial is over (#notsponsbutwouldlovetobe #plsnoticemeLush), I should say that I haven’t tried all of their masks, but honestly I hope to eventually. I currently am oscillating between the following four masks: Cupcake, Rosy Cheeks, Oatifix, and Cup O’ Coffee. Each targets something different (and smells heavenly!!). Cupcake targets oils and dirt. Rosy cheeks targets... can you guess? Rosy cheeks! Oatifix is specifically for dry skin, which I don’t have, but it doesn’t make my skin more oily, it just hydrates it. Lastly, Cup O’ Coffee is an exfoliating mask so it targets dead skin, and grime.

Three skin tips (that relate I promise):

Do not use more than one mask a day if your skin has not been built up to this, or is not used to it, it will just cause more breakouts.

Do not exfoliate more than once every two to three days. Otherwise, it will just cause your skin to dry excessively.

Do always moisturize after using a mask or even just washing your face

Wait at least thirty days to judge any product. By that time, your skin will have fully adjusted to its new skin care routine and you’ll truly be able to see if it is or isn’t helping.
