I Got A Puppy!

He’s a purebred golden retriever and we bought him instead of getting him from a shelter. My parents made the decision, because they wanted to know for sure what the breed was. We’ve adopted from shelters before, but the last time we did, the dog actually had a brain tumor. She was the sweetest dog, but we had to take care of lots of vet visits and such because of her condition. We only had her for a year before she passed. So my mom wasn’t willing to have something similar happen to us again, because we had fallen so deeply in love with this dog who was taken from us too quickly.

Anywho, on with his origin story. My family and I were on a trip to Tennessee when we were given the opportunity to get the dog. My parents did a lot of back and forth with this decision. So it was very possible for most of the trip that we would get this puppy, but the last day of the trip they decided against it. So like two days after we get home my dad wakes up like he’s had a revelation about getting this dog. So suddenly he’s like “We should get the dog.” Complete 180 since the trip and that makes my mom agree about the dog, so then at this point everyone’s agreed about the fact that we’re getting the dog and now the only issue is getting the dog home, because it’s located in Missouri which we could’ve easily driven to then, but basically my mom catches a flight to Missouri after buying the crate for the dog to come back on the plane in.

And finally, my furball arrived. He was very skittish at first, which totally made sense because it was a completely new environment. It took him about a week to start venturing past the living room, but since then he’s such a comfortable little pup. He’s the cutest little thing that brings so much love and joy to my family. Sometimes when i feel like a loser or that i’m letting people down, I just think about how he’s still proud of me. Because of the unconditional love that dogs provide, he doesn’t know that I didn’t win that day. He doesn’t know that i felt crappy or that I let people down. So it’s almost a pick me up because no matter what the pup is still gonna love me and be super happy to see me when I come home.

P.S. his name is Sam. (short for Samson)
