My 'Meet You There' concert experience

A few months ago, I saw the tickets go live, and after a month and a half or so, I saw the prices were getting higher, not lower. I showed my mom and I am so grateful see got them for me as a birthday present. The show’s date was a few days before my birthday.

The waiting was crazy, I spent everyday looking forward to it. I was so excited. Before long, It was the night before and I had bought a fanny pack in preparation and completely planned out my outfit at least a week in advance.

The morning of, my mom wanted me to go to school, so I woke up at 6:30 like normal. She tells me that I don’t have to go to school if I do a bunch of chores (because my grandad was staying at our house in a few days). So I see the list of chores and immediately decide to stay home. All I had to do was vacuum the floors, wash the dishes and declutter and wipe down the kitchen counter and the dining table.

I do it as fast as possible so I don’t have to rush through my makeup. I was leaving with my volleyball coach’s daughter (aka an adult) around noon. I started doing my makeup around ten o’clock, but I definitely played some Fortnite and had some snacks to kill time. I knew my makeup would be heavier than normal so I didn’t wanna make my skin suffer for longer than it needed to.

I airdropped some music from my iPad to the tv and blasted music. I decided against any of 5 Seconds of Summer’s music, because I would hear it on the way there. So I turned on a Girl’s night party playlist and did my makeup in the living room.

Fast forward to arriving at the venue (around 1:30 pm), we walk around and don’t see a line. After asking people what was going on, we find out the venue was giving out tickets for places in line. We got numbers 603 and 604. All we had to do was keep our tickets and come back around 6:30. We had around five hours to waste. So basically we spent four and a half hours wandering around the venue. If you do the math, four and a half hours is still thirty minutes earlier than we needed to be there, but it was okay because people were already lining up by their numbers.

After standing in that line for like two hours, the staff at the venue starts to take us inside the venue, number group by number group, starting with VIP. I was at the beginning of the fourth group (601 and 602 were no-shows). We get walked from the front to the side, where there is another small-ish line to go through security, which is just them checking your bag and patting you down.

Next, I was inside the venue!! I was in the same building as my favorite band ever! The waiting was insane, and I was surprised that they had an opening act, because somehow I didn’t know. At this point, I’ve been standing almost all day and I am really, really feeling it, but the second that 5 Seconds of Summer ran onto the stage, adrenaline took over. It was like my feet didn’t even matter.

Their performance was crazy amazing, and I cried so hard when it was over. At the end, I couldn’t hear, my ears were ringing, and I didn’t have a voice. I actually took a video of it because I knew my future self would want to see it. I was putting in a lot of effort for talking and I did not have enough voice for it. I sounded like a middle school boy going through puberty, but worse.

I expected the way home would be a bit more depressing, but it wasn’t, until I was actually home. The most post-concert-depressed I felt was the next morning when I was supposed to get ready for school. It felt very final and I knew that the only way I’d see that concert again was in the videos I took and in my dreams. I’m not gonna lie to you, I cried through most of that morning (it probably didn’t help I watched the videos and looked at the pictures), and when any of my friends asked about it I started to cry. Actually, I think it wasn’t until the third day after, that I could talk about it without crying.

Basically, the concert was amazing even though I waited so long and didn’t have my voice or hearing completely back for a few days. I love them so much and would definitely recommend seeing them in concert!!

A few pictures I took:
